Swedish Cities

Malmö

Time: 10-15min

Cost: About S$7 per trip

This city is nice to chill out in when you just want to leave Lund for a while. There are parks and many small quaint cafes that are quite pretty. It is a good blend of a quiet town like Lund and a city like Stockholm, and there are more shopping places. You can check out the Western harbor (Västra Hamnen) and Modern Museet too. Can be covered within a day.

Stockholm

Time: About 5hours

Cost: About S$65 per trip for regular (not express) trains

Stockholm is a really bustling city and is definitely very different from Lund. There are plenty of things to see and do there - plenty of bars, clubs, museums, shopping areas and an amusement park. Standard of living there is higher though, so be prepared to pay more than usual.

Göteborg

Time: 3hours

Cost: About S$50 per trip

If you're into the archipelagos, or trying top-notch culinary food, Göteborg is the place to go. This city also has its own charm in the little alleys along the shopping streets. Check out the old town Haga too, and try the world's largest cinnamon bun (45cm in diameter, they say!) There is also an amusement park and quite a few museums to visit.

Helsingborg

Time: 40min

Cost: About S$12 per trip

This is a quiet town with a beautiful harbour. That alone is worth a visit, but it would be recommended to take a ferry from Helsingborg to Helsingor in Denmark for a visit, and you can take a train back to Lund after. Can be covered within a day.

Travelling Out

Copenhagen (Kastrup) Airport provides more international flights and is typically the preferred venue to fly out from. Malmö on the other hand is better for domestic flights; their flights are rather limited.

Göteborg is also worth a consideration as some budget airlines travel there, and it may be even cheaper to travel from Göteborg than from Copenhagen, taking into account the train fare differences as well. Stockholm is pretty far out and expensive, so you would very unlikely be travelling from there.

Swebus offers buses from Lund to many major Scandinavian cities for a pretty cheap price, but the downside is the travel time. On the upside, the buses have a toilet and free wifi.
