Student Nations

The Nations are probably most similar to the Halls we have in Singapore. You can join one nation but also attend activities from all other nations.

Some nations are known for their food (Vasgota!), or sports, or partying culture. Because Lund is a university town, the nations culture is pretty huge.

Studentlund Card

The Studentlund card costs about 275SEK and entitles you to student discounts in all parts of Europe. You can also join almost all nations' activities (see below on student nations), including their parties, dinners, clubbing nights, brunches and other events - and you get cheaper lunches at the nations!

You can either apply for it during the Student Associations' Fair (but the queue will be quite long), or at one of the nations directly. Note that the Studentlund card is not compulsory.

Arrival Day

Go early! (: If you arrive at 9am, you can expect to finish by noon or 1pm. If you arrive at 2pm, you can expect to finish by 6pm. There's a lot of queueing and waiting and it isn't much fun. You'd probably want to get your house keys ASAP, but that's the last step of the whole process.

Once you reach Lund Central Station, there will be plenty of student mentors stationed to guide you. The entire process is systematic and coordinated. There will be free shuttle buses to take you to the AF Building, where you will deposit your luggage temporarily on the ground floor, while you register and collect your Welcome Pack upstairs. Bring your passport and acceptance letter for the registration!

You will also get to sign up for SUSA courses, or speak with your course coordinator. Collection of housing keys by LU Accommodation will be conducted in a separate room, which has the longest queue!

There will also be booths for student-organised events. Tickets for excursions and orientation activities will also sell out fast, so the sooner you complete your administrative matters, the better chances of you securing a seat.

Textbooks / Library / Printing

Textbooks here are expensive, so you can either search for them at second-hand stores, or borrow them from the school libraries and photocopy what you need. If you wish to borrow books from the library, you will have to apply for a library card, which is different from your Lund University student card, Studentlund card and all other student cards you might have.

To print documents in the libraries, you will need to 'top-up' your STiL student account via credit card, and log into the school PCs with the account.

Academic Lessons

There is a policy that requires compulsory attendance for the first lesson of every course you take, in order to confirm your registration. If you miss the first lesson, you will be dropped from the course.

The professors will also highlight to you (usually during your first lesson) which are the compulsory lectures or tutorials throughout the semester. That will help you plan your travel schedules. (:

Lund University Student Card

This card is free and permits you access to certain buildings on campus. You will have your photograph taken on the spot and receive your card about 1 minute after.
